6 posts · Joined 2018. #1 · Jan 18, 2018 (Edited) I picked up a 15-3 in excellent condition, just a slight hint of a drag line on the cylinder, otherwise 99%. I'm trying to figure out the age of this revolver, serial number is 1K15XXX. Best I can tell from Google this is circa 1970..

The serial number would put it at 1975. Nickel finish was fairly common on model 19s, but if it looked good shape when you bought and is now flaking I`d consider it suspect. But there are some kinds of cleaning solvents that are hard on nickel finish.

It comes from a lineage back to 1899, they begame the model 10 in 1957 and were made in various forms. The 10 dash 6 is known as the heavy barrel variety. Your gun is not as old as you may think, it left the factory in 1965, so it is getting some age on it though. There is also this: A 642-1 CXX84xx that I happen to know definitely shipped in 2015. So I assume a 642-2 with a DBE prefix would have shipped after that.
